AI Auction Listing Descriptions for Sellers
September 1, 2026 · 6 min read
Writing a good auction listing takes time. You need an accurate title, a clear account of condition and features, and enough detail to answer the questions buyers always ask. The Buyer + Seller Pro plan includes AI Title & Description Generation, a tool that helps sellers write listings in minutes instead of hours.
How AI titles and descriptions work
The process is simple. A seller uploads a photo of an item, either from the phone camera or the gallery, and the AI analyzes the image to generate a title and description.
Say a seller photographs an antique lamp with a stained-glass shade. The AI recognizes the item type, the style, and details like condition and materials. It might generate a title like “Vintage Tiffany-Style Stained Glass Table Lamp, 22 inches tall” and a description like “Stained glass lamp in working condition. Blue and amber glass panels in a geometric pattern. Brass base shows minor patina. Includes original bulb. Some wear consistent with age, no cracks or significant damage.”
The seller reviews the text and edits it. They might add the maker’s name, correct a detail the AI missed, or expand on condition. Then they save the listing, and the text (edited or as generated) goes live on the auction site and in the mobile app.
This is a Pro plan feature. It isn’t included in the Buyer or Buyer + Seller plans.
Photo upload on mobile
The app accepts both camera and gallery uploads, so sellers can generate descriptions however is convenient for them.
A seller working out of a warehouse can snap photos on the spot and get descriptions right away. One working from an office can pull images from a folder on their phone or computer instead.
Standard image formats work (JPEG, PNG), and uploads are handled securely. Larger files get compressed automatically so the process stays fast even on a slow connection.
Sellers can also upload several photos of the same item. The AI can pull details from each angle that a single photo would miss, a chair’s fabric pattern in one shot and its leg joinery in another, for example.
What sellers should check before publishing
The AI does most of the work, but a seller should still review the output before it goes live.
Accuracy comes first. Does the title identify the item correctly? Did the AI get the color right? If a photo is unclear or the item is unusual, the AI can guess wrong, and the seller is the one who actually knows the inventory.
Completeness matters just as much. For a vintage watch, the brand and year carry the listing. For furniture, it’s dimensions and materials. The AI usually catches these, but a seller should fill in anything the photo alone doesn’t show.
Tone is worth a look too. AI-generated text is factual but often flat. A short pass to make it sound more like a person, rather than a spec sheet, tends to build more trust with bidders.
If you know the maker or brand, add it. A maker’s mark rarely reads clearly in a photo, and a line like “Wedgwood pottery” adds real value that the AI can’t supply on its own.
Condition deserves particular attention. The AI catches most visible damage, but a chip near the base or a hairline crack can be easy to miss in a photo. Sellers who are upfront about flaws see fewer disputes later.
If your site has Advanced Search, available on the Pro plan, think about the terms your buyers are likely to search for. The AI usually works these in naturally, but it’s worth a second read before you publish.
The AI service subscription
AI Title & Description Generation runs on a subscription to the underlying AI service, billed separately from your AuctionWorx Mobile plan. You can pay per use or on a monthly plan, depending on your listing volume.
If you list dozens of items a week, the monthly plan tends to be the better deal. If you list occasionally, pay-per-use usually costs less. We can walk you through pricing and help you pick the option that fits how you actually list.
There’s no long-term contract tied to it. Start the subscription, use it for a month, and pause it when you don’t need it.
Why it’s worth using
Clear photos, accurate titles, and honest descriptions attract more bidders, and bidders skim titles before they decide whether to read the description at all. A tool that helps you write better listings faster means you can list more inventory in the same amount of time, and more listings mean more traffic, more bidding, and more sales.
Consistency is the other benefit. If you’re listing 50 items a week by hand, some descriptions get more attention than others. Generating them with AI keeps the quality more even across the board.
Photos that get better results
A few habits make a real difference in what the AI produces.
Shoot in natural light when you can. Harsh phone-flash shadows and reflections hide detail that a window or a spot outside won’t. Get close on the parts that matter: the face of a watch, the spine and back cover of a book, not just the front. If there’s a scratch, dent, or discoloration, make sure it shows in the frame. The AI reports what it sees, so hiding a flaw doesn’t help anyone.
For anything three-dimensional (furniture, lamps, sculptures) shoot multiple angles so the AI can describe the whole piece, not just the side facing the camera. And where it makes sense, include something for scale: a hand next to a small item, a coin beside a piece of jewelry.
The AI will work with whatever you give it, but a clear, well-lit photo produces a noticeably better result.
Pro plan and AI availability
